Travel Files : Valencia, where dreams turn into reality

#photo heavy post... :-)

By Tripti
Hello my sweet people,

Here is the most awaited and exciting post of mine till now….. Especially for me, as every passing moment in Spain was making me more thoughtful about this post. But thankfully I have some photographs to express what all I miss in my words.
Spain… suddenly a very popular spot in the hit list of Indian visitor’s (just like Switzerland now) and for that my credit is to Bollywood. Valencia grabs international attention for its beautiful sea beaches, eventful history and currently hyped ‘La Tomatina’ fest too. For me, the impellent was La tomatina fest and of course the movie ‘Zindagi na milegi dobara’, but later I realized it is so much more than that... And the experience became more exclusive as we spent this time with one of our best buddies Ricardo Tejero, a native of Valencia and his family in Spain. This trip could have never been so exceptional without him.

We landed there on Sunday night, received warm welcome with Ricardo’s family along with a brilliant dinner ahead. The first day in Valencia, we dedicated to the biggest attraction of the city – Oceanographic (city of science and arts), a matchless exemplar of modern architecture and acclaimed Europe’s largest aquarium. My first witness to several ocean species like- dolphins, penguins, shark, seals and many others whom I have always seen in television, brought me many never before experiences…. Dolphin show just won my heart. Altogether, I will say it’s a wondrous place with extra-ordinary craft work of both human and nature.    (http://www.valencia-cityguide.com/tourist-attractions/museums/l-oceanografic.html). One full day is minimum requirement of the place.

Spain attracts more tourists from entire world for its hot weather too. And this hotness of weather and hard sun leads Spaniards to ‘SIESTA’ (one hour break after lunch) and late night party culture. Although as an Indian I can never appreciate a 40 degree C temperature and a bright sun on my head. So, if you ever plan to visit Spain, then April and October would be the best months for non- sun lovers… ;-)
The second day we visited the beautiful harbors of Valencia and sailed into the Mediterranean Sea with a big boat. It was lovely to evident the sea lively than in the world maps and geography chapters….

La tomatina and bull race were in our to-do list for third day. Even the very hot weather was insufficient to low me down… but I think I would never like to over-shadow my rest of the experience of Spain with more description of it… so, you will have to wait little bit to read exclusively on it till next week…. But would definitely mention here Spanish fests, which are always in the queue…. Somewhere a tomato fight, other someplace a cake fight, their fiery bull race and out of our imagination wine-bath….  Ahhhh,These are very few but enough to define their craziness and what always resides in common is ‘Party’ and ‘Alcohol’… ;-)

Our next day destination was ‘Peniscola’, about 145 Km from Valencia City. Peniscola , which is historically significant in Spanish history is also known as  ‘the city in the sea’ and the relevance of this title you can easily figure out with the pictures. A city with in the castle reminded me the castle of Jaisalmer, Rajasthan. In case you are a history follower, you are gonna stick to this place… ;-)

The trip cannot be so touristic with three hiking enthusiasts. Also, the idea of cave, sea and rigid trekking made me crazy and we left for Alicante, around 180 Km distant from Valencia. Well, we did not visit the city as the beaches and this place with name ‘La Cova Talla’ was quite enough for the day. Check the pics…

Just like old Delhi- New Delhi or say old Lucknow- new Lucknow…. Valencia too has a similar discretion. But not as congested or messy as the old cities of Lucknow or Delhi are. The old Valencia city is an extremely beautiful place embellished with number of wondrous monuments and Churches with much significant architecture of times. So all in all Valencia is perfect as ideal vacation spot. Your all holiday desires will get fulfillment with several colors of Valencia. Be it, Party, fashion, sight-seeing, food, culture, history, sports, fest or in short ‘Anything’. Rest, I will convey my heartily thanks to Yogesh for his brilliant photography as I felt extreme shortage of words while writing what my eyes witnessed.
