Lakme Gen Next designers to be mentored by the renowned fashion designer - Anita Dongre

This season’s six designers were hand-picked by the new eighteen member Advisory Board made up of luminaries and stalwarts in the Indian fashion industry who did an outstanding job for the seventeenth batch of the Gen Next category. The new batch of designers will debut at the upcoming season of Lakmé Fashion Week Summer/Resort 2014 that will be held from 12th to 16th March 2014 in Mumbai.

The Gen Next programme is a reflection of how LFW has nurtured fashion talent over 17 long seasons and provided them with an opportunity to showcase their creativity at India’s most prestigious fashion event. Past protégés such as Masaba Gupta, Swapnil Shinde, Rahul Mishra, Nitin Bal Chauhan, Archana Rao, Aneeth Arora and many others got their first break at Lakmé Fashion Week. Today they are stars in their own right. Each of these six designers joining the ranks of the greats has an individualistic quality and will follow in the footsteps of their predecessors.

Each season the winning designers have been mentored by an illustrious person from the fashion fraternity and this year it is Anita Dongre. Designer par excellence, Anita has been at the forefront of the Indian fashion scene for over 20 years and is inarguably, one Indian designer who truly stands in a league of her own. Under Anita’s guidance too, the new batch is expected to grow to their fullest potential while maintaining their individuality.

This season the selection of the six designers were made from 150 + submissions and through a pre-selection of 30 entries. The distinguished panel of jury members comprised eminent designers, fashion editors; prominent buyers and representatives from Lakmé & IMG Reliance chose six names basis some key criteria that included quality, innovation, marketability, and ability to legitimately take their business to the next level.
