Song Video of the Day 11 - Zindagi Kaisi Hai Paheli by Manna Dey (from the film Anand)

By Tarry

Today, the song video of the day series features tribute to one of the finest singers in Indian cinema - Manna Dey. He left for heavenly abode today morning :'(

It is impossible to talk about music without mentioning Manna Da, as he was fondly called. He has been known as a pioneer for bringing classical musical in popular arena. Some of his gems include 'Puchho Na Kaise maine', Aye meri zoharajabi and Laga chunri mein daag.

In the era spanning from 1950's to 1970's, Dey, alongwith Rafi, Mukesh, and Kishore Kumar became a famous quartet of singers who dominated the Hindi music industry. In a career spanning over five decades, Dey went on to sing over 3,500 songs in Hindi, Bengali, Gujarati, Marathi, Malayalam, Kannada and Assamese films before quitting movies in the '90s.

The song I have chosen is from the film Anand, 'Zindagi kaisi hai Paheli Haaye'. What I like about the song is the philosophical feel it has. It gives a wonderful message of life in a simple, yet beautiful manner...

Jinhone Sajaaye Yaha Mele Sukh-Dukh Sang-Sang Jhele
Wahi Chunkar Khaamoshi Yu Chali Jaaye Akele Kaha
Zindagi ...Kaisi Hai Paheli, Haaye
Kabhi To Hansaaye Kabhi Ye Rulaaye
